Tintagel North Cornwall English Heritage.
Associated in legend with Merlin and King Arthur, the enigma of Tintagel Castle on the North Coast of Cornwall continues to baffle historians and archaeologists alike. Is it the place the Roman called Durocornovium, whose whereabouts have never been traced? Was it a Celtic Christian monastery? Or, the stronghold of the Kings of Cornwall in the Dark Ages. Whatever the answers, Tintagel Castle, clinging to its lonely island, with the surf thundering against the cliffs below and the waves breaking over the threshold of Merlin's cave remains one of the most spectacular and romantic spots in the British Isles.
